Through the Eyes of Ellen Garrison

2015 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

A Freedom’s Way event co-hosted by the Old Manse Sunday October 18th.

This historical interpreter was great. She told her story with humor and honesty. Will go again to hear more.

Meet Ellen Garrison, Concord’s Rosa Park
The Robbins House | 2 – 3 pm, Open to All
Born in Concord in 1823, Ellen Garrison was a good scholar, teacher and social activist. Ellen worked with abolitionists William Lloyd Garrison and Robert Morris, taught with the American Missionary Association/Freedmen’s Bureau and signed multiple civil rights related petitions. In 1866, Ellen raised the test case for the 1866 Civil Rights Bill by suing a train station master for forcibly ejecting her from a ladies waiting room in Maryland because of her race.
