Shadows of Liberty Protest

At this time of heightened violence and awareness of inequity toward people of color, we were heartened by the support for our Shadows of Liberty Protest on June 1st. Over 500 people came with signs and masks to listen, learn, and add their thoughts. Our heartfelt thanks to those who joined us! Organized in 24 hours and moderated by Nikki Turpin, Robbins House Programming Chair, the event included:

  • A discussion on the connection between Tulsa’s “Black Wall Street” massacre of 1921 and the Minneapolis 2020 protests by Nikki Turpin
  • Ellen Garrison and advocating for civil rights by Rob Monro
  • In Memoriam, We Say Their Names by Concord Tour Company and Friends
  • How systemic racism has led to police brutality by Maria Madison
  • A moment of reflection and expression in the Quaker tradition
  • Open Closure – Words of Hope and Action read by Elaine Rabb and Michael Turpin

“Thank you. It was important for my kids to hear the reading of the names. I loved that [Concord’s Police] Chief O’Connor came forward to stand with us.”
– Rick MacDonald, Attendee
